Professional footballer Kevin Stewart, who has played against some of the best players in the world including Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets, stands at a completely different route today. The 27 year old former Liverpool midfielder is on the verge of finishing his first ever real-estate development project which involves building a 48-flat apartment block for students in Birmingham city centre.
Kevin currently plays as a midfielder for League One club Blackpool and works dedicatedly towards his sport and maintains a disciplinary diet, alongside of which he’s also very keen to expand his knowledge around property investing and scale-up his side hustle.
Property investment was never a plan in Kevin’s life. He was enjoying being Liverpool’s best tackler, as described by his manager Jurgen Klopp. It was only when he picked up an injury, the realization hit him that a footballer’s career is only short-lived and cannot always pay his bills and maintain his current lifestyle. This is when he started looking for alternate career options to start drawing some passive income and secure his future after football.
One thing that truly fascinated him was property and real-estate. He knew investing in property could give him great returns and can be really profitable, but he didn’t know where to begin from.
In January 2020, he started taking mentorship from Samuel Leeds, who literally changed the game for Kevin and helped him map a proper plan for his launch.
His Journey to Acing the Property Investing Game
After coming in contact with Samuel Leeds, Kevin started his learning journey, where he decided to attend a Property Investment crash course. “I’d been watching Samuel’s YouTube videos for quite a long time before that and thought I’m never going to be able to come to a crash course because I’m always playing football,” he recalls.
While still recovering from his injury, Kevin quickly grabbed the opportunity to join the course. It was a life-changing experience for Kevin as he got to learn and understand so much about the property world. Kevin learnt the importance of putting yourself out there, networking with people and building and nurturing relationships, all of which is quite uncommon in the world of football.
He later went on to join the Property Investors Academy along with his dad and cousin and there has been no looking back ever since. He invested around £300,000 from his savings to construct a five-storey building with 48 flats that are due for completion by August. Post the completion, Kevin is determined to take on more developments, such as commercial to residential schemes.
Kevin sees property as one of the best vehicles for building wealth, which can be pursued alongside another career. He stresses on finding a mentor who’s doing exactly what you want to do and network with the right people. He further advises aspiring investors to always find a way to help somebody with whatever knowledge they have.
He quotes “Property is definitely a career I’ll probably go full time into after I’ve finished playing. It will be a similar life – on the road a lot, going round meeting people and looking at deals. It’s a life I find super interesting.”
